Recession hits Italy's Easter spending (ANSA) - Rome, April 9 - The recession had a big impact on the amount of money Italian people spent on food at Easter this year, farmers' association Coldiretti said on Monday.

Coldiretti said eight out of 10 Italians stayed at home over the Easter weekend and spent an estimated total of 1.2 billion euros on food and drink, 7% down on 2011.

It said spending on Easter eggs and the traditional Colomba Easter fruit cake was hit particularly hard, falling 10%.
