Investigators probe benefits scam in southern Italy

(ANSA) - Asti, March 5 - Police investigators on Monday
reported a woman registered as legally blind and claiming
benefits for aggravated insurance fraud.Photos taken of the allegedly disabled woman gardening, performing detailed cleaning and giving precise directions near the northern town of Asti have led to charges against the woman who received more than 60,000 euros in state support over the last five years.
In the southern town of Battipaglia near Salerno 162 people are suspected of false income declarations allowing them health-care benefits reserved for low-income-bracket families and individuals, police said on Monday.
