Vatican: Pope tweets Lent message to followers (ANSA) - Vatican City, February 23 - Pope Benedict XVI spoke to the faithful via Twitter Thursday to mark the second day of Lent.

"The Lenten season offers us once again an opportunity to reflect upon the very heart of Christian life: charity," wrote the pontiff using the Twitter name @Pope2YouVatican. Apart from traditional media including Vatican Radio, Vatican Television, the Vatican newspaper L'Osservatore Romano, and the Holy See's press office, the Catholic Church has been using social media such as Facebook, blogs and Twitter in recent years. "Many of the key Gospel ideas are readily conveyed in just 140 characters," said Monsignor Paul Tighe, secretary of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications.
