'Every entity has a soul' says Father Guy Consolmagno

(ANSA) - London, December 1 - A Vatican astronomer on
Thursday gave his blessing to extraterrestrials, if they exist,
and said he would be happy to baptize one given the opportunity."But only upon request," said Father Guy Consolmagno at the British Science Festival in London. "Every entity, regardless of how many tentacles it has, can have a soul". The American research astronomer is an outspoken believer in evolution and the possibility that other intelligent life forms exist outside planet Earth. "Religion needs science to keep it away from superstition and keep it close to reality, to protect it from creationism, which at the end of the day is a kind of paganism - it's turning God into a nature god," he told British daily The Scotsman in 2006. Vatican assertions that the theory of evolution is not incompatible with Catholic doctrine became more categorical in 2009, which marked 150 years since Charles Darwin published his seminal 'On The Origin Of The Species'.
