John Paul II's blood will be on display for the faithful to
venerate during his beatification on May 1, the Vatican said
Tuesday. The blood is currently stored in the Bambin Gesu' Hospital where it was held ready for transfusions until John Paul's death in 2005. The Vatican said the blood is in a liquid state because of an anti-coagulant. More than a million pilgrims are expected in Rome for the beatification which puts the Polish pope one step away from sainthood.
His body will be moved up from the crypt in St Peter's and put into a chapel near the entrance.
