(ANSA) - Pisa, November 23 - A military C-130 transport plane with five people aboard crashed soon after takeoff from Pisa airport at 2.10pm (local), city and military sources said.
All five on the plane were killed in the crash, air force sources said.
The plane was from the 46th air force brigade and military sources said it was engaged in a training exercise.
Eyewitnesses said they saw the plane spin out of control before crashing and bursting into flames.
Pisa Mayor Marco Filippeschi said that the plane came down just outside the airport area and crashed on to tracks of the local Pisa-Collessavetti-Cecina rail line.
Pisa airport, used by both military and civilian aircraft, has been temporarily closed down.
Miliary sources said that Defense Minister Ignazio La Russa was being kept constantly informed on the developments from the crash.
