Soccer: Adiyiah 'could be new Messi'
Ghanaian will arrive Jan 2 says Galliani
06 November, 18:23(ANSA) - Milan, November 6 - AC Milan's new Ghanaian signing Dominic Adiyiah could be the new Leo Messi, Milan CEO Adriano Galliani said Friday.
Galliani noted that Adiyiah, 20, was top scorer at the recent Under-20 World Youth Championship, a successor to the Barcelona European champ and hot favourite for European Footballer of the Year.
Argentina star Messi topped the goalscoring rankings at the 2005 tournament.
"If he follows in Messi's footsteps, it would be too much to ask," the CEO said.
Milan have been in talks all week to sign Adiyiah from Norwegian Premier League side Fredrikstad FK.
They broke down on Tuesday because Fredrikstad wanted too much, Galliani said, but now the two sides have agreed terms.
The player, who has scored 17 goals for Ghana's Under-20 side in 16 appearances, is expected to pass a medical later Friday.
He will join AC on January 2, Galliani said. Adiyiah was billed 'the new David Villa' at the FIFA championship.
