Ansamed: tourism; Musaraj, driving Mediterranean's potential

Speaking in Rome during the Seminar entitled 'The Sea and Culture, Drivers of Tourism Growth in the Mediterranean Area', Arta Musuraj, Chancellor of Pavaresia University in Valona, set two targets: to work on communicating the Mediterranean's potential and to create a network which would have the effect of providing added value to the whole value-chain in the Mediterranean area.
The seminar was part of the congress ''The Mediterranean network'' organized by Ansa.
Starting with the fact that tourist arrivals in Albania last year reached the 3.5-million mark, Musuraj went on to argue that such figures lose all of their value unless they are widely communicated. ''There has been substantial but steady growth in tourism to Albania, which is now cited as among the ten global destinations in such prestigious newspapers as New York Times,'' he said.
''The growth potential of every Mediterranean country is significant as it provides a financial input to sustainable development. This is the context in which we should view the cooperation between the Balkan states, setting up a tour taking in each country to create a synergetic tourist market which extends beyond Europe''.
