Ports:Bulc(EU), North Adriatic Sea can't rest on its laurels

Summit attended by Serracchiani, focus on 'window' on central EU

(ANSA) - TRIESTE - ''The harbours of the northern Adriatic sea can't rest on their laurels, they should invest more'', according to the EU's transport commissioner, Violeta Bulc, who spoke at the end of a summit on regional infrastructure, organised by the President of the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Debora Serracchiani, in collaboration with some representatives of harbours and railways. Bulc underlined that, according to the EC, the harbours of the northern Adriatic sea ''open a window for goods coming from Asia and moving towards the largest industrial centres of Central Europe, such as sourthern Germany and Poland. I hope they will be able to co-operate in order to achieve economies of scale, since I am convinced that every investment can guarantee the free movement of goods and high-quality products. If we are not able to build a fully functional organization involving all the harbours, we will have to find another solution to guarantee a good flow of product, but I am confident - she added - that we will be able to build a benchmark infrastructure''. In detail, Bulc remarked that Trieste needs to develop its links with Capodistria (Koper) and underlined that ''all the projects regarding links and connections within the EU's internal market space and bottlenecks have been given higher priority so far''.(ANSA).
