(ANSA) - ATHENS - The Greek telecoms industry last year decreased by 3% over the previous year. This news was reported by the Hellenic Telecommunications and Post Commission (EETT) which has estimated that the market turnover in 2014 was 5.24 billion compared to 5.40 billion in 2013 and 5.92 billion in 2012.

The fixed telephony services have seen connections decrease to 4.78 million, whereas the share of OTE - the market leader - in the Internet connection lines has dropped to 58% from 61% in 2013. Broadband Internet will continue to grow, according to estimates made by EETT, though at a slow pace; its level of penetration reached 28.5% last year compared to 26.3% in the previous year. The broadband operations stood at 3.15 million at the end of 2014, compared to 2.91 million at the end of 2013. In addition, there were 2.88 million new ''double-play'' subscribers (telephone and Internet) in December 2014. EETT has also recorded a significant growth in the sector of pay TV: between June 2013 and June 2014, 250,000 new Internet TV or satellite subscribers were recorded, increasing their number to 820,000. It is estimated that the total amount has now exceeded one million. (ANSA).
