From December no trains to Moscow from Sofia and Budapest

Decision mainly due to drop in passenger traffic

18 October, 09:59
(ANSA) - TRIESTE - No direct rail connection from Budapest to Moscow, from mid-December until date to be determined. And even no direct passenger train from Sofia to the Russian capital, and vice versa. The decision was made by the Federal Passenger Company of Russian Railways and reported today by local media in Hungary and Bulgaria, which specified that this choice was made ''due to a significant drop in passenger traffic'' on the two sections.

Only for a few weeks, then, those who prefer to travel by train rather than plane will be able to cover more than two thousand miles of distance between Moscow and Budapest with the IC 16 departing from Budapest Keleti at 6.40 pm, arrival in Moscow on Sunday, at 9.30 am. Today it takes 50 hours to reach Moscow from Sofia, taking the 'direct' train Bucharest-Kiev. (ANSA).
