(ANSA) - TRIESTE - The EU continues its commitment to supporting the ESOF 2020 project in Trieste. The Directorate General for Research and Innovation of the European Commission, through its general manager, Robert-Jan Smits visited Trieste, and allocated 1 million euros to support the initiative. The funding may increase in the future, prior to event.

Visiting Trieste in order to participate in the IPT, Smits was very impressed by the charm of the electric station in the old port of Trieste, where he made an inspection.

Trieste was also selected to host ESOF 2020 because the European Union intends to enhance not only the big cities, but also the smaller and lesser known ones, aiming to show Europe's beauties, even those who are hidden.

While waiting for the big event, when Trieste will become the Capital of Science, Peter Tindemans, general secretary of Euroscience, fully supports pro-Esof, which is the path towards ESOF, in other words the parallel programme to be held in Trieste , starting this year, ahead of the 2020 event.

The steering committee, the most important committee among the three which are ruling ESOF, is on its way to be established.

The other two are the international media and marketing committees. (ANSA).
