(ANSA) - TRIESTE - Top tourist attractions of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region were presented in St. Petersburg as part of a trade mission of Italian operators and journalists, who met many Russian tour operators specializing in different tourist clusters.

During the meetings, a keen interest in Friuli Venezia Giulia was recorded among the Russian tour operators, not only because of local attractions, but also because this region can play the role of a starting point to reach the Balkan tourist resorts, and first of all those which are located along the Adriatic coast. Particular attention has been paid to Ronchi dei Legionari (Gorizia) airport and its transformation into a a true multimodal hub at the heart of a large area including Friuli Venezia Giulia, Veneto, Slovenia, Austria and Croatia. Keen interest has also been recorded among operators in the coastal marine network extending from Lignano (Udine) up to Muggia (Trieste), both as a starting point for ports in the Northern Adriatic Sea, both as a logistics hub for yacths and for technical services and accomodation. With regard to the specific attractions of the FVG region, the meetings in St. Petersburg focused on the seaside resorts of Trieste, Grado and Lignano, with their Mediterranean beaches, which are the closest to Russia, food and wine excellences in various areas, with particular reference to wines, cheeses and typical products, and historical-cultural-environmental itineraries that allow you to reach, in a couple of hours, the snowy peaks of the Alps from the Mediterranean beaches, passing through an area which is rich in history, ranging from the Roman vestiges of Aquileia, to the Longobard heritage of Cividale del Friuli, and the fortress of Palmanova, both Unesco's World Heritage Sites. ''We must and we can focus on Russia - said Carlo Dall'Ava, honorary Russian consul in Udine -, by strengthening the good relationship we already have with Russian entrepreneurs and tour operators and enhancing the fascination that tourists from Russia continue to have for Italy''.
