(ANSA) - TRIESTE, DEC 17 - The preparation for ESOF2020, which
will turn Trieste into the international capital of science, is
getting to the heart of the matter. Today, the Program Committee
met fort the first time in order to establish the rules, the
speakers and the contents. During the morning, the Committee
indicated eight themes: water as a resource to be managed and
defended, science and diplomacy, 'Calcolo ergo sum' (the
importance of calculations, big data, the Internet of things,
use of smart phones, artificial intelligence and robotics),
science and society, renewable energy, sustainable future
(agriculture, food and other), humanities (for a long and good
life).
''This is the first meeting and was preceded by many preparatory
communications - explained Andrea Gambassi, professor of Physics
at SISSA, member of the Committee - and soon we will draft the
call for international participation, we are expecting about 300
proposals for seminars and different activities, then we will
have to select''.
The final decision for the program is scheduled for June 2019,
then the international selections will be completed by
September. The Program Committee consists mainly of scientists,
but also representatives of other scientific organizations, such
as the CEI, Central European Initiative. Roberto Antonione, new
secretary general of the CEI, underlined ''the importance of the
support that science and politics can give each other''. The
director of Slovenia's Stefan institute, Jadran Lenarcic,
expressed ''interest also in organizing some events in
Ljubljana''. Mounir Ghribi, OGS's International cooperation and
strategic partnership officer,will focus on water and scientific
diplomacy. Riego said that ''the themes selected for ESOF2020,
cover most of the crucial issues'' of the present and the
