(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 16 MAR - The Bulgarian minister of Energy, Temenuzhka Petkova, said today during a question time at the Parliament that the China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) has expressed in mid-February interest in the nuclear power plant project of Belene, in Bulgaria, the Bulgarian news agency Bta reports. Bulgaria already said in the past that the Cnnc, the largest State-owned energy company in China, was interested in the Belene project, cancelled in 2012.

The news agency Bta has recalled today that Bulgaria was ordered by an arbitration court in 2016 to pay around 600 million euro in compensation to the Russian company AtomStroyExport, for two reactors already built for Belene.

Since then, the news agency wrote, the Bulgarian government is trying to revive the project. Last month, Bulgarian prime minister Boyko Borissov has suggested the idea to relaunch the Belene project as a common Balkan energy program. (ANSA).
