Hawking: director Pasovic recalls commitment for Sarajevo

Scientist criticized inaction of Western powers during the siege

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 14 MAR - The Bosnian intellectual and director Haris Pasovic paid tribute today to the memory of Stephen Hawking with a post on his Facebook profile.

Pasovic quoted a message sent in June 1993 by Hawking to the Sarajevo International Theatre Festival (Mes), managed by Pasovic during the siege.

In the message, Hawking said that the attacks against Sarajevo "represent a cruelty that should not be allowed in a world that defines itself as civilized," Pasovic wrote. The renowned physicist noted that he was "very much disappointed by the reaction of the Western governments", according to him similar to the inactions of the Western powers at the time of the Munich conference in 1938. Pasovic is known, among other things, for having produced 'Waiting for Godot' in the besieged Sarajevo and for being the founder of the Sarajevo Film Festival. (ANSA).
