Migrants: Italy-Slovenia joint patrolling ends

But cooperation between police forces continues in some areas

02 October, 21:08
(ANSA) - LJUBLJANA, OCTOBER 2 - The joint patrolling of the border between Italy and Slovenia, an initiative launched last July and planned until the end of September, is formally over, but cross-border cooperation between police forces continues in some areas. The news agency STA reported, citing a statement issued by the police department in Koper, where the collaboration continues. In Nova Gorica, however, joint patrols have been suspended.

During the joint patrolling in the Koper area, 46 joint patrolling operations were carried out, 36 in Slovenia and 10 in Italy. Until September 30, 2019, less than four thousand (3,922) foreigners were stopped along the border area, a number which is slightly higher than the same period last year, when 3,272 migrants were blocked at the border.
