Presidential election in Ukraine

The run-off between Zelensky and Poroshenko

20 April, 18:29
(ANSA) - MOSCOW - In Ukraine, the presidential run-off election will be held on Sunday. The two candidates who won the highest vote shares in the first round on March 31 are comedian Volodymyr Zelensky (30%) and the current president Petro Poroshenko (16%).

The comedian leads in the national polls with over 70%. On Friday, the two candidates met in an electoral debate at the Olympic stadium in Kiev. The meeting took place in a gridlocked city, with 10,000 policemen deployed in the streets, traffic jam, and overcrowded club. Petro Poroshenko and the challenger Vladimir Zelensky faced each other in a no-holds-barred public meeting, focusing on their respective 'fortes': Poroshenko on the inexperience (of the comedian) and Zelensky on the collusion typical of an unfair system (created by an oligarchy).
