Macedonia: anti-corruption,Cantone at the Skopje conference

(ANSA) - SKOPJE, FEB 21 - Italy's experience in preventing corruption is recognized as European best practice and will be the focus of an international conference organized in Northern Macedonia by the Italian Embassy in Skopje and the OSCE, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.

"Institutional reforms for the fight against corruption, best practices towards a European model - The Italian example" will be the focus of the conference to be held in Skopje tomorrow, February 22. The President of the National Anti-Corruption Authority (ANAC) Raffaele Cantone will describe the various aspects of the Italian model. The commander of the Special Anti-Corruption Unit of the Finance Police general Gaetano Scazzeri will focus on the existing operational link with the ANAC and the investigative techniques used in Italy. The ANAC mission will also be the occasion for a series of bilateral meetings with premier Zoran Zaev, Justice minister Renata Deskoska and the head of the Macedonian Commission for the Prevention of Corruption (DKSK), Biljana Ivanovska. The visit is part of Italy's consolidated anti-corruption activity in the Western Balkans. In 2017, Italy has included the fight against corruption among the priorities of its presidency of the Berlin Process, the diplomatic initiative for the enlargement of the EU to western Balkan countries. A crucial issue that was resumed the following year also by the UK's OSCE presidency. Italy has included this aspect among the central topics of the OSCE presidency in 2018, appointing Mrs. Paola Severino as special representative of the foreign minister. (ANSA).
