EU says Kosovo's tariffs on Serbia are a 'wrong reaction'

Spokesperson, Pristina violates Cefta, stop with provocations

(ANSA) - BRUXELLES, 22 NOV - After Pristina's government decision to set a 100% import tax on all goods imported from Serbia, EU spokesperson Maja Kocijancinc, warned today that EU recognises "that there are problems" between Kosovo and Serbia, "but the way in which the Pristina's government reacted in this context is simply wrong". "We ask the two political leaderships to put an end to these provocations and concentrate on concluding the normalization" of their relationships, she said.

According to Brussels, the unilateral decision of increasing customs duties constitutes a "violation of Cefta, which is intrinsically linked to the stabilization and standardization agreements", that Brussels has with the six Western Balkans "to bring the region close to the EU". "We expect Cefta secretariat to take the necessary measures to ensure that the agreement is fully respected," Kocijancic pointed out.

"The grievances between Serbia and Kosovo must be addressed through EU-mediated dialogue. Measures, actions and recent statements do not go towards stabilization", rather they "undermine progress made in recent years", EU spokesperson warned.(ANSA).
