(ANSA) - BRUSSELS, NOV 14 - "We are one hundred percent aligned with the European Union, our society has decided to join the EU ever since we broke away from communism, we want to continue on this path and our date is June 2019", Albanian Foreign Minister, Ditmir Bushati, said today at the end of the EU-Albania Association Council.

The Brussels and Tirana's delegations are committed on preparatory work towards the start of accession negotiations, set by the States for June 2019.

Tirana reiterated to Brussels its "firm commitment" on the reform agenda and, in particular, on strengthening the rule of law. "We are working with the EU on the negotiation chapters 23 and 24 on human rights and the rule of law, which will be a fundamental process for the new judicial architecture of the country", Bushati said, pointing out that Tirana is focusing on protecting the "national minorities".

When it comes to the fight against organised crime and corruption "it is too early to say that Albania and other countries in the region have completed" the work required by the EU, but "what we have achieved in recent years is encouraging and we want to reach objective," the Minister assured.(ANSA).
