Hungary: Bulgaria's deputy prime minister, no sanctions

'Decision made by EU parliament is ideological'

20 September, 17:45
(ANSA) - SOFIA, Sep 20 - ''There is a repressive action against Hungary that is not based on solid ground, since there is no significant evidence in favour of the European parliament proposal to impose EU sanctions against that country'', said Bulgaria's deputy premier and defense minister Krassimir Karakachanov at the end of a meeting of the ministerial council last night. Karakachanov added that, in accordance with a proposal made by the coalition partners 'United Patriots', the center-right government led by Boyko Borissov (GERB), is preparing to issue Sofia's statement on the EU sanctions against Hungary. ''We believe that the decision made by the EU parliament is absolutely biased and based on pure ideological convictions, without taking into account that Budapest is available to discuss with the Commission some of the criticism of Hungary'', Karakachanov added. According to deputy premier, ''the decision made by the European Parliament is a violation of sovereignty''.
