(ANSA) - LJUBLJANA, JUN 1- In Slovenia the electoral campaign ends today in view of Sunday's early elections. In mid-March, prime minister Miro Cerar resigned after a decision by the Supreme Court has invalidated the referendum on the project to build the second track of the Divaca‒Koper railway line, an infrastructure project that he strongly supported. The referendum was then repeated in mid-May, and for the second time it did not reach the quorum and was therefore rejected.

The main topics of the electoral campaign were the privatization of state companies, immigration, public health reform and the raising of pensions. The SDS, the largest opposition party led by former prime minister Janez Jansa is leading in the polls with about 25% of the vote, and is very close to Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orban, who through has financed the electoral campaign through his entourage. The Civic List led by Marian Sarec comes in second place in the polls, with about 13%. Third, the Social Democratic Party (SD), with 12%.

According to different opinion polls, more than a fifth of the voters said they were still undecided. Among the political forces that should enter the parliament, in addition to SDS, SD, SMC and LMS, are New Slovenia (NSi), with 8%, the Democratic Party of Pensioners of Slovenia (DeSUS), the United Left (Levica), with 7 %, and the movement led by Alenka Bratušek who should be able to exceed the 4% threshold to enter parliament.

Polling stations will be open on Sunday from 7am to 7pm, and the first official results will be known as early as 9pm. (ANSA).
