(ANSA) - TRIESTE - Slovenia's president Borut Pahor, who is in
Rome to attend a series of events and talks, met on Wednesday
with Italian MP Tatjana Rojc (Pd), who is a representative of
the Slovenian minority in Italy. At the end of the meeting, in
the new headquarters of the Slovenian embassy in the Via
Salaria, senator Rojc said that the main needs of the Slovenian
community in Italy were reported to president Pahor. Among the
problems to resolve are a guaranteed political representation of
the members of the community in Italy's central institutions,
the maintenance of the law on support for minority publications
and the renewal of the coordination table for the issues of the
Slovenian community at the prime minister's bureau. During the
meeting, there was also an exchange of views on the political
situation in Italy. ''It was a very relaxed and fruitful
meeting: President Pahor - Rojc pointed out - is an appreciated
statesman in Europe, a good friend of Italy's, and for us,
citizens of Friuli Venezia Giulia, he is also a fellow
countryman, given that his roots are in Gorizia and he never
forgets them. Thanks to people like Pahor and president
Mattarella, we were able to build excellent relations between
our two countries''.(ANSA).
