EU: 26 mn fine to Austria for Salzburg rigged accounts

Second time after Spain, for Valencia accounts

(ANSA) - BRUSSELS, MAY 28 - The EU has fined Austria over 26 million euros for rigging the data on the Land of Salzburg debt.

The decision was made by the EU Competitiveness Council and is related to the 'false' debt data for 2012 and 2013. This follows the survey launched by the EU Commission in May 2016 which found ''serious negligence'' by the Court of Auditors, the State Office and the State Government of Salzburg over data controls, falsely reporting financial transactions that led to erroneous figures on the Austrian debt for 2012 and 2013. This is the second time that the EU imposes a fine for rigging data on public accounts, after the sanction on Spain in July 2015 for the 'false' data of the Valencia region.(ANSA).
