Romania: govt plans centralized procurement unit

To increase efficiency in spending and management

17 April, 17:44
(ANSA) - BELGRADE - The government in Romania will create a centralized procurement unit within the Ministry of Finance according to a draft law published by the same institution today, the financial portal Business Review informed.

Setting up a centralized unit will speed up purchasing procedures and improve spending management, Business Review noted.

The aim is also to "simplify the legislation to address systemic problems identified during a monitoring process of the government's procurement system," the portal noted.

Business Review recalled that the centralized unit was supposed to be operative already by December 2016. According to the new project, the unit will be fully functional by January 1st, 2019. (ANSA).
