(ANSA) - BRUXELLES - The European Commission has recommended
to the Council of the European Union to give the green light for
launching membership negotiations with Albania: Tirana deserves
its EU candidate status, EU High Representative Federica
Mogherini and the EU Commissioner Enlargement Johannes Hahn said
at the European Parliament in Strasbourg today.
Brussels has recommended opening membership talks with Skopje
too, Mogherini and Hahn announced today, presenting the
so-called 'enlargement package'. According to the European
Commission evaluation, after having focused on the required
reforms, the former Yugoslav republic of Macedonia has
intensified also the negotiations with Greece in the last
months, in order to reach a solution on the name dispute.
The final decision on the talks will be reached in June, at
the EU leaders summit. (ANSA).
