Kosovo: Thaci, this year 'historic' agreement with Serbia

'On full normalization of relations'. Criticism of the KLA Court

(ANSA) - BELGRADE - According to President Hashim Thaci, Kosovo will reach this year a ''historic'' agreement with Serbia on the full normalization of relations. ''The agreement between Kosovo and Serbia which, I believe, will be signed this year will be historic, a complete agreement that will result in the admission of Kosovo to the UN'', Thaci told Reuters in an interview which was picked up by Serbian media.

This agreement, he added, will mark the full normalization of relations between Belgrade and Pristina. In this interview, Thaci then referred to the Special court for KLA crimes which has just begun its activity, speaking of ''historical injustice''. However, he underlined, ''we agreed to set it up in order to maintain a strategic partnership with the US, EU and Nato''.

''Kosovo has nothing to hide'', he added. Thaci - who in the past was among the leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KA/UCK) - said that, if he were asked to appear in front of the Court, ''the president or any other citizen of this country has no reason to be afraid''. ''We have never violated the laws of Kosovo or international rules, but we have fought against a dictator, a man responsible for genocide'', he said with reference to former Serb and Yugoslav leader Slobodan Milosevic.
