Croatian parliament holds minute's silence for Praljak

Sentence against Croatian leaders for war crimes 'unfair'

30 November, 16:12
(ANSA) - ZAGREB - The Croatian parliament began its Thursday sitting with a minute's silence in memory of all the Croatian victims in Bosnia and of General Slobodan Praljak, who committed suicide by drinking poison on Wednesday at the International Criminal Tribunal (ICT) in The Hague after being handed down a definitive sentence for war crimes. Parliamentary speaker Gordan Jandrokovic read a joint statement from almost all the parliamentary groups describing Wednesday's conviction for war crimes of six high-ranking Croatian politicians and soldiers including Praljak as "unfair and unacceptable". "The sentence handed down by the ICT does not take account of the historical truth and indisputable evidence" concerning the role of the Croats and of Croatia in the war in Bosnia in 1992-1995.
