(ANSA) - BELGRADE - Kosovo President Hashim Thaci said the
United States will be committed to ''reaching the final
agreement'' between Pristina and Belgrade. Speaking to the Voice
of America Broadcasting Service in Albania after meeting with US
Vice President Mike Pence in Washington, Thaci confirmed the
direct involvement of US leadership in the final phase of the
agreement. ''I can confirm that Vice-President Pence has clearly
said that the United States will be involved in reaching the
final agreement (with Belgrade). The same vice-president Pence
will work personally on this process'', Thaci said, local media
reported. This involvement, he underlined, guarantees the
success of the whole process that will ''help Kosovo reach the
final agreement on normalization and reconciliation with
Serbia'', opening the way to ''Kosovo's accession to the United
Nations''. Accordint to Thaci, ''all this will put an end to a
long and very dangerous status quo in Kosovo and the whole
region'', Serbia does not recognize Kosovo's unilaterally
proclaimed independence, and Pristina and Belgrade have been
engaged for some years in a EU-mediated dialogue to reach a
normalization of relations. (ANSA)
