(ANSA) - LJUBLJANA - The great majority of Slovenians, or 86% of those polled, according to a recent survey, backs the government's intention of boosting measures to control the border in case of a new wave of migrants along the Balkan route, similar to the one registered a year ago.

The controversial legislation proposed would enable Slovenia, in case of a new migrant crisis, to reject migrants at the border, including asylum seekers. A reported 22% of Slovenians interviewed for the poll published by newspaper Delo on Monday were in favor.
The draft law also provides for the immediate deportation of people caught in illegal crossings. Some 47% said they believed criticism of the measures expressed by human rights groups and the Council of Europe were unjustified.
The Slovenian Parliament will start examining the legislation next week. (ANSA).
