(ANSA) - MUNICH - Terror in Germany. Ten dead, one of which is
the gunman, and 16 wounded in the massacre perpetrated on Friday
afternoon in Munich (Germany) in a McDonald's restaurant and
then in a crowded shopping center in the northern outskirts of
the city. The killer is a an 18-year-old German guy of Iranian
descent for reasons that are still unclarified: terrorism or
madness are the two hypotheses that have emerged so far. The
gunman started shooting with a pistol shortly before 6 pm in
front of a fast food. After being chased by plain-clothes
agents, he committed suicide about a kilometer away from the
''Olympia'' shopping center, Munich police chief, Hubertus
Andrae, confirmed The police chief claimed that currently there
are no elements mirroring recent attacks by the Islamic State
(Isis) or the recent attack with an ax and knife on the train to
Wuerzburg. This tragedy, which happened a few days after the
assault committed by a 17-year-old guy on a train in Bavaria,
occurred in a mall packed with people on a Friday night. The
teenage shot several times with a pistol, killing 9 people,
including teenagers, and wounding 16, three of whom
''seriously'' (they are in mortal danger). The subway was
completely closed throughout the city and the all-clear came
only at 1:30 am, the railway station was evacuated and all
trains leaving and accessing to city were blocked. The fear
spread even in the city's central areas, where some customers
were prevented from going out of the shops. The country was put
on its highest alert level, and Chancellor Angela Merkel
received messages of solidarity from all EU member states and
from the White House. (ANSA).
