(ANSA-AP) - BERLIN - Authorities say four people are suspected to have died in floods that struck southwest Germany.

The council in Schwaebisch Gmuend says in a statement Monday that a firefighter died as he tried to rescue someone from floodwaters near the town's railway station. The person he was trying to save also is believed to have died.

Police say the body of a third victim was found in a flooded garage in Weissbach near the city of Heilbronn.

News agency dpa reported that two streams have burst their banks in the town of Braunsbach, unleashing floodwaters that destroyed one house, damaged several others and left streets strewn with debris. (ANSA-AP).
