Mattarella at Sarajevo summit, focus on migrants and terror

Balkans among foreign policy priorities, radicalism is growing

27 May, 20:33

(ANSA) - ROME - The Croatian population is declining, the number of Muslims is increasing and even radicalism is growing. In Bosnia, looking into the overall figures, more and more cases of ''foreign fighters'' leaving for Syria have been recorded. In this alarming scenario, Italy's President Mattarella will fly to Sarajevo tomorrow to take part in talks with Bosnia's tripartite presidency and to participate, as a guest of honor, in the leaders' summit of the ''Brdo Brioni Process'', an informal meeting aimed to enhance the Balkans' integration. This visit to Sarajevo also completes the missions already undertaken by Mattarella in Serbia, Montenegro, Slovenia and Croatia, confirming the close attention Italy continues to pay to Western Balkans. And the Balkans pay attention to Italy, too, deeming it as an important partner to develop dialogue with the European Union and as a sponsor of the difficult process of integration of different countries within the turbulent region. The informal cooperation forum has the aim to bring together around the same table all the leaders of the region in the presence of a high representative of one of the EU leading countries. Even Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, Macedonia and Serbia take part in this initiative. (ANSA).
