Milanovic, in July, Croatia’s request to enter Schengen ar

Delay feared, due to terrorist threat

(ANSA) - ZAGREB - Croatia will submit its request to join the Schengen area of free movement between EU member countries next July 1, in conjunction with the 2nd anniversary of the country's entry into the EU. This was announced by Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic.

''Croatia has great expectations from its participation in the Schengen agreement, since the country's tourist sector is very strong and dynamic'', the premier said, recalling that most tourists in Croatia come from European countries. Local media and analysts fear, however, that Croatian government's willingness to join Schengen as soon as possible might be thwarted by calls for greater caution, more controls and security in Europe since the terrorist attacks in Paris.
