(ANSA) - SOFIA, JANUARY 29 - The Bulgarian government led by
Boyko Borissov, head of the conservative party Gerb who rules a
coalition with the nationalists of the United Patriots group,
has survived today in parliament a no-confidence motion
presented by the socialist opposition, which reported the
"fiasco of government policy in terms of protection of the
environment and management of water resources." Out of the 235
deputies, 124 voted against the no-confidence motion, compared
to 102 in favor. Socialists and MPs belonging to the Turkish
minority party in Bulgaria (DPS) voted in favor of the motion.
Members of Gerb (95 votes), the nationalist coalition United
Patriots (21 votes) and 8 independents voted against.
There were nine abstentions. Sofia's unicameral parliament is
made up of 240 seats and 121 votes were needed to pass the
motion. This is the 4th no-confidence vote in the third
government led by Borissov, which took office on May 4, 2017.
The three previous motions were, respectively, "about rampant
corruption, the inability to guarantee public order and national
security, and because of the catastrophic situation of public
health." (ANSA).
