(ANSA) - BELGRADE, DECEMBER 19 - Bulgaria has announced a shortlist of candidates for the selection of a strategic investor for the construction of the new nuclear plant of Belene.

According to a statement of the Bulgarian ministry of Energy, the shortlisted companies are the China National Nuclear Corporation (China), Rosatom - Atomenergoprom (Russia), Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (South Korea), Framatome (France) and General Electric (U.S.A.).

The selected companies will be invited by the end of January 2020 to submit their bids for the future 2,000 MW nuclear power plant.

Thirteen were the applicants that submitted applications to become strategic investors for the Belene project, the ministry recalled. The procedure to select the strategic investor will be "flexible", the ministry added, noting that the winner will have the possibility to agree with other companies interested in a minority share in the project.
