EU, reforms and dialogue wait for new Kosovo's government

Increasing turnout is 'good' for democracy

07 October, 19:50
(ANSA) - BRUSSELS, OCTOBER 07 - "There is important work ahead for Kosovo and its new government to advance work on reforms, in support of economic and social development as well as rule of law, and to work for a resumption of the EU-facilitated Dialogue with Belgrade", EU spokeswoman, Maja Kocijancic, said following the elections in Kosovo.

The Self-Determination (Vetevendosje) party took first place in early parliamentary elections on Sunday, with 25.7% of the vote and 95% of ballots counted, according to the election commission in Pristina.

"Yesterday was a good day for democracy in Kosovo. Voters came out in larger numbers than in 2017 to cast their ballot and make their voice heard", the spokesperson added.

The prelimnary assessment of the EU Election Observation Mission on the correct conduct of the voting process is expected to be published tomorrow. (ANSA).
