In Romania lowest food price levels in the EU

Tobacco products cheaper in Bulgaria, Poland and Croatia

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 20 JUN - Romania recorded the lowest price levels for food and non-alcoholic beverages in the European Union in 2018, data published by Eurostat today show. Last year, the lowest price levels were observed in Romania (66%), followed by Poland (69%), Bulgaria (76%), Lithuania (82%), Czechia (84%) and Hungary (85%). At the opposite end of the range, Denmark (130% of the EU average), followed by Luxembourg and Austria (both 125%).

Eurostat said that Romania had also the lowest price levels for bread and cereals (54% of the EU average) and for meat, together with Poland (63% of the average), country that registered the lowest price levels for milk, cheese and eggs (71% of the average). The lowest price levels for alcoholic beverages were registered in in Bulgaria and Romania (both 74% of the EU average) and Hungary (77%), while for tobacco the lowest price levels were observed in Bulgaria (49% of the EU average), Poland (60%) and Croatia (62%).
