Greece: national election officially scheduled on July 7

Presidential decree in parliament

12 June, 20:25
(ANSAmed) - ROME, JUNE 12 - An early national election in Greece has been scheduled on July 7, as expected. The president's decree affixed in parliament in Athens approves the dissolution of the Chamber and formally sets early elections.

President Prokopis Pavlopoulos - the news agency Ana-Mpa reports - has accepted Premier Alexis Tsipras's request for a snap vote after defeats in European and administrative elections.

The new chamber will meet on July 17, when lawmakers will be sworn in and will elect Parliament's top members.

Center-right party Nea Dimokratia, the winner of the last two elections, is well ahead of Syriza, the left-wing coalition led by Tsipras, in recent surveys. (ANSAmed).
