(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 9 APR - In 2018, the economy in Romania grew by 4.1%, data from a new evaluation of the Romanian National Institute of Statistics show.

In absolute terms, Romania's 2018 nominal GDP was revised upward by 0.4% to approximately 202.9 billion euros, compared to a first estimate, the portal Romania Insider reported.

According to the latest economics forecasts of the European Commission, the Romanian economy will grow by 3.8% this year and by 3.6% in 2020, down from the 7% registered in 2017. "The composition of growth is expected to remain fairly stable, with private consumption still the main driver," the Commission stated, noting that "the evolution of investment in 2019 will largely depend on the impact of policies introduced in December 2018 concerning the banking, energy and telecommunications sectors."
