German jobless rate slips to 5.1 percent in March

In seasonally adjusted terms 4.9% after 5 months at 5%

(ANSA-AP) - BERLIN, 29 MAR - Germany's unemployment rate has slipped to 5.1 percent, with the labor market benefiting from a traditional springtime rebound despite a less rosy outlook for Europe's biggest economy. The Federal Labor Agency said Friday that the unadjusted jobless rate was down from 5.3 percent in February. In all, 2.301 million people were registered as unemployed - 72,000 fewer than the previous month and 157,000 less than a year earlier. The agency said the post-winter rebound was stronger than usual and the labor market was "robust" in the face of weak recent economic data and a string of lower economic forecasts. In seasonally adjusted terms, the unemployment rate slipped to 4.9 percent after four consecutive months at 5 percent.
