(ANSA) - BELGRADE, MARCH 28 - The brain drain caused by youth emigration has a huge financial impact in Serbia, according to a recent study published by the Institute for Development and Innovation.

The study revealed that the direct losses can be calculated in the range of 0.3-1.2 billion euros per year, local media reported.

The research said that the financial impact of brain drain can be calculated also taking into account the loss of investments in education, with the costs for the State of educating a student from elementary school to university standing at approximately 34,000 euros per student, while the education of a future doctor costs 55,000 euros. An OECD report estimated that some 245,000 people have left Serbia between 2012 and 2016, Serbian media reported. (ANSA).
