28 March, 11:04

(ANSA) - BRUSSELS, MARCH 27 - On March 28th and 29th, EU Commissioner for Enlargement, Johannes Hahn, will travel to Sarajevo and Belgrade on official mission to take stock of the progress of the two countries on their path towards the European Union.

On 28th March, in Sarajevo, Hahn will discuss the state of play of the socio-economic reforms that the country committed to undertake to open accession negotiations with the EU. Brussels is currently working on an opinion to present to EU Member States in order to give Bosnia-Herzegovina the status of 'official candidate' for EU membership. In the late afternoon, the Commissioner will move to Belgrade until Friday, 29th, afternoon. He will reiterate "the urgent need of a cross-party dialogue", between government and opposition, referred the spokesperson of the EU External Action Service, Maja Kocijancic. In recent weeks, anti-government demonstrations in Serbia have become increasingly violent and the EU calls on Belgrade "to advance democratic governance and the rule of law". The Commissioner will meet the Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, PM Ana Brnabic, and Serbian opposition leaders. He will also attend the opening of the Golubac Fortress on the right-bank of the Danube. (ANSA).
