Bulgaria: Euro adoption realistic from 2022

Prime minister, good for banking system and interest rates

29 January, 14:10
(ANSA) - BELGRADE, JAN 29 - The most realistic timeframe for the adoption of the Euro in Bulgaria is January 2022, Bulgarian Finance Minister Vladislav Goranov said, quoted by the news agency Novinite. According to Goranov, Bulgaria is preparing to join both the European currency mechanism and the European Banking Union at the same time, adding that the concerns related to an increase of prices after the adoption of the euro are not grounded, Novinite reported. Adopting the euro in Bulgaria will discipline the national banking system and bring down interest rates at the same time, Bulgarian Prime minister Borissov added.

"Tax revenues in 2018, compared to 2014, are 50 percent higher which is an indication that the systems and transparency are working well. Our external debt this year will reach 18.6 percent and that will place us next to the countries with the lowest debt rate in the EU," Borissov noted, Radio Bulgaria reported. (ANSA).
