Germany: manufacturing PMI falls, first time in 4 years

(ANSA) - ROME, JAN 24 - In Germany, the PMI index that monitors the manufacturing sector has recorded a slowdown for the first time in four years. In January, the PMI index - Markit reported - splipped to 49.9 points from 51.5 in December, below 50, which is the threshold between the cycle's expansion and contraction.

The new orders have plummeted to a record low since 2012, mainly due to the slowdown in the automotive sector. On the other hand, the services sector has improved; the PMI index went up to 53.1 from 51.8, thus contributing to the rise of the composite index from 51.6 to 52.1. (ANSA).
