Serbia: survey, 53% for keeping Kosovo at any cost

Only 24% would accept recognition of independence

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 29 DIC - More than half of Serbs think that Kosovo should remain a part of Serbia, according to a new survey of the Center for Free Elections and Democracy (CeSID) and Center for Euro-Atlantic Studies (CEAS).

According to the study, 53% of respondents said that Kosovo should remain in Serbia "at any cost", while only 24% agreed with the statement that "Kosovo is independent and Serbia should accept this situation and turn to the future." A relevant share of respondents (33%), the survey show, agree with the idea that Kosovo should be split, with the north going under direct Serbian control, while 36% said that a more comprehensive "national delimitation is necessary", with all areas area of Kosovo predominantly inhabited by Serbs becoming part of Serbia.

In relation to the EU integration, 47% of respondents said that they would vote for Serbia joining the EU in a referendum, 36% against; 68% would vote against Serbia joining NATO, only 11% in favor.

The research was conducted in November 2018 on a representative sample of 1.010 citizens of Serbia. (ANSA).
