(ANSA) - BRUXELLES, 17 DIC - The Association Council between European Union and Ukraine signed today seven financial agreements to support the country on his path towards reforms.

The deals include an energy efficiency plan for Ukraine, a memorandum of understanding between the Ukrainian Ministry of Education and the European Investment Bank (Bei) for higher education, and a finance contract for development in transport connectivity in the country. The agreement with Kiev "is now delivering results. It is something Ukrainian people have asked for for a long time," EU High Representative Federica Mogherini said at the end of the meeting, commending Volodymyr Groysman's government for the "important progress" made "in bringing its legislation in line with the European Union acquis. New legislation has been adopted on intellectual property rights, on the environment, on food safety, on energy, on consumer protection, and a new company law", Mogherini said.

Following the implementation by Kyiv of the policy conditions agreed with the EU, Mogherini recalled that Brussels disbursed the first tranche of 500 million euros of the new EU macro-financial assistance programme for Ukraine last week.

EU is now focused on the country's fight against corruption.

"We would like to see the high anti-corruption court finally fully operational as soon as possible," Mogherini pointed out.(ANSA).
