Romania: Bucharest, new trams with EU funds

Capital city acquires 56 new vehicles

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, NOVEMBER 1 - The Romanian capital Bucharest will renew a substantial part of its trams fleet.

The city has decided to acquire 56 new trams and to revamp the lines where the trams run on, local media reported. The project will cost around 121 million euros and 98% of the costs will be covered by European Union funds, the portal Romania Insider informed, while the municipality will invest approximately two million euros in the revamping of the local transport system. Around 200 trams are currently in function in Bucharest, mostly very old vehicles. The city is also expected to receive new buses and trolleybuses in the next months. (ANSA).
