Taxes: Estonia, Latvian systems most competitive in OECD

Competitiveness Index looks at more than 40 variables

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 26 OTT - Estonia and Latvia have the most competitive fiscal systems among members of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the latest International Tax Competitiveness Index developed by think tank Tax Foundation revealed. Estonia, with 100 points, has been recognised as the most competitive tax system for the fifth year in a row, while Latvia jump from the third to the second position, with 86 points, the Latvian information agency Leta informed.

The index developed by the Tax Foundation takes into account more than 40 tax policy variables to define the OECD most competitive fiscal systems, looking at corporate, individual and property taxes and how the systems are efficient. According to the 2018 International Tax Competitiveness Index, other Central- and Eastern Europe EU member states ranked well for the tax competitiveness, with the Czech Republic and Austria in the ninth position (both with 69.6 points), followed by Slovakia (69.4 points) and Hungary (13th, 68.4 points). The least competitive tax systems according to the index are the Italian (46.9 points) and the French one (41.4 points). (ANSA).
